Today the average life expectancy of an individual is almost 80 years of age. And with technology constantly changing to make life easier for the average blue collar individual, technology for seniors have lacked in that area but is now our country is seeing more technology to make life easier for seniors. Senior technology can really be a necessity for elders. This technology can really give ease to seniors and their families when living at home alone.
The intelligent phone is a senior technology, similar to the caller id phones; there are additions such as showing the relationship of the caller and some additional notes. Sometimes there are just too many names to remember and this will make life easier for the seniors.
Other senior technology such as a pill dispenser that is programmed to speak reminders, light up can help elders. Even if our elders forget to take a pill, there are pill dispensers that will call a caregiver.
Providing an elder with a walker is another technology that makes life easier for them. Let's face it, the older we get, our bones become fragile and balance can be off. Being able to use a walker for assisted walking can help them maneuver throughout their house.
Seniors with health issues can also wear pendants, bracelets and such that will alert someone for help. For example, if an elder person fell and they were wearing the pendant, they could press a button, which would alert dispatch who would send help. Families can worry a little less knowing that if something does happen they won't be stuck; they can call for help right where they are.
Most senior technology available can make life easier for our loved ones. Most families work and have children, it is hard to care for elders 24/7 and in some cases they want to live in their own home to feel more comfortable. Using these and other technologies for seniors will help put the families' minds at ease and will also provide some security and independence to elders.
